Our story
The American Dream
Pete, a young man born in a poor village in Greece, dreamed of a better life. In 1968, Pete arrived in New York in search of the American Dream.
Pete got his start in New York, where he opened two pizzerias. Then, in the early 1970s, Pete decided to move to Michigan seeking even a greater opportunity. Pete worked in many different restaurants before opening a storefront restaurant in downtown Detroit in 1980. That’s where he met his beloved Mary, nearly twenty-seven years ago. Pete discovered that Mary had the same passion for service as he had. This brought many new adventures to their lives.
Since then, they have owned four other locations: one in East Pointe, two in St. Clair Shores, and another one in Detroit. Today, Pete and Mary celebrate their newest location, “Ms. Mary’s and Pete Too!” This restaurant represents their dream of having a restaurant on Gratiot with the concept of giving their guests a wonderful experience without the high cost.
So in the final phase of Pete’s American Dream, he can truly say he has fulfilled that dream with Mary at his side, their two boys, Pete’s four children, and grandchildren. All in celebration of living, loving, and with plenty of laughs.
